Moby is powered by a library of AI models. To make sure every customer gets consistently strong results from their included Moby usage, Triple Whale manages which model runs your request based on your plan.
Foundation and Legacy plans run Moby on Triple Whale's recommended, pre-selected models for your plan and usage allotment.
Automate and Enterprise plans include full access to Triple Whale's entire model library, including new frontier models as they're released.
Why Triple Whale selects your default model
Not all AI models use your included Moby usage at the same rate. Some premium models can consume significantly more usage for the same task without a meaningfully better result — for example, Claude Opus may use roughly 4× more usage without consistently improving the output.
By pre-selecting the model best suited to each plan's usage allotment, Triple Whale helps your included usage go further while still delivering reliable, high-quality output.
How model access works by plan

Automate | Full access to Triple Whale's model library. Select any available model directly, including new frontier models at release. |
Enterprise | Same as Automate: full model library and direct model selection, including frontier models at release. |
What this means for chats and automations you already have
This change applies going forward, not retroactively:
Existing chats keep running on the model they were already using.
Existing Automations keep running on the model they were already using.
The plan-based model selection described above applies to new chats started after this update.
You won't see an existing conversation or scheduled Automation switch models unexpectedly.
Choosing your model directly
If you want to select a specific AI model for a task — for example, to use a newly released frontier model — this is available on Automate and Enterprise plans. These plans also include the larger usage allotment needed to support direct model selection, since some models use usage at a higher rate.
To choose a model directly:
Start a new Moby chat.
Open the model selector.
Choose the model you'd like to use for that conversation.
Foundation and Legacy customers who want this capability should talk to their account team about upgrading to Automate or Enterprise.
FAQ
Will my usage allotment change because of this?
No. This affects which model runs your requests, not the size of your monthly Moby usage allotment.
Why can't I see a model picker on my plan?
The model picker is only available on Automate and Enterprise. On Foundation and Legacy, Triple Whale selects the best-fit model automatically.
