Overview

This article walks you through connecting your Triple Whale data to ChatGPT using Triple Whale MCP. You add Triple Whale as a custom App in ChatGPT and authorize your business with OAuth2. Moby then answers your questions from your live Triple Whale data. The connection is read-only, so it answers questions about your data and never changes anything in your business or your Triple Whale account.

Before you begin

You need:

  • A Triple Whale account with at least one connected business.

  • Moby usage available on your Triple Whale plan.

  • Triple Whale MCP enabled on your plan. It is available on eligible Triple Whale plans, including Foundation, Automate, and Enterprise. If you are on a legacy plan and already used the previous MCP connection, your access may remain enabled. If you are on a legacy plan and want access, contact your Triple Whale account team.

  • A ChatGPT plan that supports custom Apps.

ChatGPT connects with OAuth2, which is the recommended and supported method.

You authorize access by signing in, so no API key is needed for the custom App. Access is read-only and can be revoked at any time.

Set up the custom App in the ChatGPT Web (https://chatgpt.com/) and desktop app.

Who can add the connector

  • ChatGPT Business: You must be an Admin or Owner to create, publish, and manage custom Apps (formerly custom connectors or MCP connectors). Regular members cannot create custom Apps unless they are on Enterprise or Edu and have been explicitly granted Developer Mode access through RBAC.

  • ChatGPT Enterprise or Edu: An Admin or Owner enables Developer Mode for the workspace and uses role-based access control (RBAC) to grant specific users permission to create Apps. Authorized users can then create and test Apps, while publishing is still governed by admin controls.

Connect Triple Whale in ChatGPT

Connect with OAuth2 by adding Triple Whale as a custom App.

  1. In ChatGPT, open Apps.

  2. Click on Create App button

  3. Select an Icon (optional)

  4. In Connection enter the Server URL, https://mcp.triplewhale.com/v1/mcp.

  5. Authentication should be on OAuth

  6. Ensure to agree to MCP connection checkbox

  7. Select Create. It takes a few seconds to finish.

  8. The following screen will have you log into your Triple Whale account and select the business you want to use for the MCP.

  9. Click Allow

  10. Wait a few seconds, and refresh the page.

  11. Start a chat in ChatGPT and start asking questions about your Triple Whale Business data.

Verify the connection

You know the connector is working when ChatGPT can answer a business performance question by pulling your Triple Whale data through the App's tools.

Try asking:

"What is my ROAS today?"

What you can ask

Once connected, ask ChatGPT about your business in plain language. Moby answers from your live Triple Whale data. For example:

  • "What is my ROAS today?"

  • "What was my return on ad spend (ROAS) last week, broken down by channel?"

  • "Compare my ad spend on Meta versus Google this month and tell me which performed better."

  • "Which products drove the most new-customer revenue in the last 30 days?"

  • "Summarize yesterday's performance, including revenue, orders, spend, and ROAS."

Troubleshooting

ChatGPT asks for your business ID.

Tell ChatGPT your business's domain, then ask again. For example: "For my-store.myshopify.com, what was revenue yesterday?"

ChatGPT cannot answer from your Triple Whale data.

Make sure you are signed in with a Triple Whale user that has access to the business you want to ask about. If you just created the App, wait a few seconds and refresh the page so your data can finish loading. If the issue is related to Moby usage or plan access, review your plan and usage in Triple Whale or contact Triple Whale Support.

You cannot create the App.

Check that you have the required ChatGPT workspace permissions described in "Who can add the connector."

Privacy and data

Your questions are sent to Triple Whale so the Triple Whale MCP can answer them against your business's data. When you use ChatGPT, your prompts are also processed by OpenAI. See the Triple Whale Privacy Policy for more information.
