Overview

When you connect your BigCommerce data to Triple Whale, you'll want to make sure your metrics match up. This guide will help you map out how Triple Whale metrics compare to BigCommerce metrics and explain any differences so you know what to expect.

Differing Metrics

These metrics have different definitions or tracking methods between Triple Whale and BigCommerce, so the numbers are not expected to match up exactly. Here's Why.

BigCommerce Metric

Triple Whale Metric

Triple Whale Definition

Reason for Difference from BigCommerce

New Customers

New Customer Orders

Number of orders placed by New Customers (equivalent to the number of unique customers that purchased for the first time during the selected time period).

Triple Whale identifies all customers as either new or returning, while some customers in BigCommerce may remain unidentified (“N/A”). This can cause the data to vary.

New Customers Rate

New Customers %

Percentage of orders placed by New Customers.

BigCommerce calculates the percentage of new customers out of all customers.

Returning Customer Rate

Returning Customers %

Percentage of orders placed by Returning Customers.

BigCommerce calculates the percentage of customers who have made at least one purchase before the selected time range and have at least one purchase within the selected time range.

AOV

AOV

AOV = (Order Revenue - Shipping Price - Taxes) / Number of Orders

BigCommerce calculates the average cart value of each eligible order (not including returns + refunds).

Revenue

Order Revenue

The total revenue after adjustments such as discounts, shipping, fees, and taxes (but before refunds).

Order Revenue = Gross Sales - Discounts + Shipping + Tax

BigCommerce calculates revenue as Product Price - Discounts, without adding Shipping and Taxes.

Tax Amount

Taxes

Amount customers paid in taxes (excluding refunded taxes)

BigCommerce includes refunded taxes.

Visits

Sessions

Total number of online store sessions

Triple Whale uses it's Web Analytics to track sessions, this is different to the way BigCommerce tracks them.

Conversion Rate

Conversion Rate

Number of website purchases / Number of sessions

Since Triple Whale tracks sessions differently to BigCommerce, the conversion rate will be different as well.
