How to ask Moby questions in Slack

Written by Kassandra Villa Arroyo

Overview

After Moby is connected to Slack, you can ask questions from Slack and get answers that use your Triple Whale shop data. This helps your team bring performance context into the channels and threads where decisions happen.

Before you begin

Moby must be connected to your Slack workspace before you can ask questions in Slack. See How to connect Moby to Slack for additional guidance for integration to Slack.

Steps

  1. Open Slack.

  2. Go to Slack channel Moby is invited to

  3. Start your message with @Moby

  4. Ask a clear question about your Triple Whale shop data.

  5. Send the message.

  6. Review Moby’s response in Slack.

  7. Ask a follow-up question in the same thread if you need more context.

Example prompts

Use this structure when you ask Moby a question:

@Moby [business question] for [time period], using [scope/source], and give me [format/decision].

Examples:

  • @Moby give me yesterday’s performance summary: revenue, orders, spend, ROAS, MER, and anything that needs attention.

  • @Moby compare today so far vs the same time yesterday. Are we pacing up or down, and what is driving it?

  • @Moby summarize the last 7 days vs the prior 7 days. Keep it to 5 bullets and call out the biggest risk.

  • @Moby which campaigns need attention today based on spend, ROAS, CPA, and new-customer performance?

  • @Moby which campaigns would you pause, monitor, or scale? Use the last 7 days and explain your confidence.

  • @Moby why did MER move yesterday? Break it down by revenue, spend, channel mix, and conversion.

  • @Moby conversion rate is down this week. Does this look like traffic quality, landing page, or checkout behavior?

  • @Moby write a founder-friendly summary of this week’s performance. Include what changed, why it matters, and the top 3 decisions.

  • @Moby analyze this file and summarize the top 5 takeaways, risks, and recommended next actions.

Prompts to avoid

Avoid vague prompts like:

  • @Moby thoughts?

  • @Moby what happened?

  • @Moby fix performance.

  • @Moby make it better.

Better versions:

  • @Moby what changed in performance yesterday vs the prior 7-day average?

  • @Moby identify the biggest driver of the ROAS drop since Monday.

  • @Moby list the campaigns we should review today based on spend, CPA, and ROAS.

Verify the result

Moby should respond in Slack with an answer that matches the question and uses the connected Triple Whale shop context.

If the answer looks incomplete, ask a more specific follow-up question. Include the metric, date range, channel, product, or customer segment you want Moby to use.

Tips for better questions

  • Include the date range you care about.

  • Name the metric you want Moby to analyze.

  • Add the channel, account, or data scope when it matters.

  • Tell Moby the format you want, such as 5 bullets, a founder-friendly summary, or a list of campaigns to review.

  • Include the decision you are trying to make.

  • Ask one question at a time.

  • Use a thread when the conversation needs follow-up.

Troubleshooting pointer

If Moby does not respond, or if Moby cannot access the expected shop data, see Moby is not responding in Slack.
