Modeled Revenue: Total vs. Breakout Views

Compare how different parts of your business perform side by side, instead of reading one aggregate trend.

Overview

The Modeled Revenue tab in Compass normally shows one blended revenue curve per channel — a Total view that combines everything into a single trend. For most accounts, that's a reasonable starting point. But if your business is made up of distinct parts underneath that total, the aggregate can hide more than it reveals. A channel that looks moderately efficient overall might be doing very different things for different parts of your business, and a single combined trend won't show you that.

The Revenue by Break selector on the Modeled Revenue tab lets you switch from that single Total view to a Breakout view, splitting each channel's trend into the segments that make up your business — customer types, retail partners, product lines, or whatever else applies to how you run your business — so you can compare them side by side instead of reading one number that averages them together.

How It Works

  • From the Modeled Revenue tab, use the Revenue by Break dropdown, next to the metric and date-range selectors, to switch between Total and a Breakout option. Each channel panel updates accordingly.

  • Total: the default view. Shows each channel's combined trend with no segments broken out.

  • Breakout: splits each channel's trend into its segments, shown as separate lines side by side within that channel's panel, so you can compare them directly.

  • Use the channel dropdown above each panel to switch which channel that panel is showing.

  • Toggle between percentage and dollar view using the % / $ switch in the top right of the Revenue by Break card.

Each channel panel plots the segments as separate lines over your selected time window. If one segment's line consistently outpaces another, that channel is doing more for that part of your business than for the rest. Watching how the lines move relative to each other, week over week, can surface differences a single combined trend would smooth over.

Where You'll See This

The Revenue by Break selector sits on the Modeled Revenue tab, next to the metric and date-range selectors at the top of the page. It only affects the trend charts inside each channel panel.

The Retail Halo Effect table below the charts, along with the Key Metrics at the top of the page — Total Revenue, Incremental Revenue, Total Spend, iROAS, and Model Quality — always reflect your combined total, no matter which Revenue by Break option you choose. Switching to a Breakout view only changes how the trend charts are segmented; it doesn't touch those top-line numbers.

What This Means For You

  • See what your Total view hides. Whatever makes up your business — new vs. existing customers, direct-to-consumer vs. retail partners like Sephora, or Product A vs. Product B — a Breakout view shows how each part is actually trending, instead of relying on one blended number.

  • Spot where a channel over- or under-performs. A channel that looks average overall may be excelling for one segment and lagging for another. Breakout views make that visible.

  • Your top-line numbers stay the same. Breakout views change how you read the trend charts, not your reported totals, so you can explore freely without second-guessing your reporting.

  • Availability depends on your data. Breakout views are rolling out to accounts that have this kind of segment data available. If you don't see a Breakout option yet, your account may not have that data set up, or the feature may not have reached your account.

FAQ

Does switching to a Breakout view change my overall ROAS or spend numbers?

No. The Key Metrics and the Retail Halo Effect table always reflect the same combined totals. Switching to a Breakout view only changes how the trend charts are segmented — it doesn't change your underlying totals.

What determines which segments show up in a Breakout view?

It depends on how your account's data is set up. Breakout views work with whatever way you segment your business — customer type, retail partner, product line, or something else — as long as that information is included in your order data.

Can I compare more than one way of segmenting at once, like customer type and retail partner together?

Each Breakout view compares segments along one category at a time. If your account has more than one available, you can switch the Revenue by Break selection to look at each one separately.

Why don't I see a Breakout option on my account?

A Breakout view depends on your account having the relevant segment data available at the order level. If that isn't set up in your account yet, the option won't appear.
