ShopMy in Triple Whale: Opportunities vs. Spotlights

ShopMy connects to Triple Whale through two separate products that serve different purposes. Both surface in your Attribution dashboard, but they measure different things and flow in differently. Here's what to expect from each.

Overview

ShopMy connects to Triple Whale through two products that serve different purposes. Both surface in your Attribution dashboard and flow in through the same connection, but they measure different things.

Key terms

  • Opportunity — A ShopMy performance-based offer where a creator earns a guaranteed payout for posting or linking to a brand.

  • Spotlight — A ShopMy paid-media campaign that runs creator content as paid ads on Meta or other ad platforms.

  • Creator payout — The amount ShopMy pays a creator upon completion of an Opportunity; this is the spend Triple Whale records under the Opportunities channel.

  • Ads: Write scope — A Triple Whale API key permission required for both Opportunities and Spotlights to sync.

  • Triple Pixel — Triple Whale's tracking pixel. For Spotlights, it joins revenue separately from Meta's own ad-network metrics through link UTMs, so the two are distinct data sources, not double-counted.

  • UTM parameter — Tracking information added to a link that identifies traffic source; tagging is automatic for both Opportunities (brand-customizable) and Spotlights.

Before you begin

One connection enables both Opportunities and Spotlights — there's no separate setup for each.

You'll create a Triple Whale API key with the Ads: Write scope and enter it, along with your store's myshopify domain, in ShopMy's integration settings.

Both fields are required, or the save will fail.

Steps

  1. In Triple Whale, go to Data → APIs → Generate an API Key.

  2. Add a Description to help identify the ShopMy key (display purposes only)

  3. Select the Ads: Write scope Select Generate API Key

    1. This is required for both Opportunities and Spotlights, since both feeds push through the same endpoint and ShopMy validates this scope when you save.

  4. In ShopMy, go to Account Settings → Integrations and Tracking and find the Triple Whale connection panel.

  5. Paste your API key and your store's myshopify domain. Both fields are required, or the save will fail.

Data starts syncing automatically on the next daily sync. No support ticket is needed — tagged Spotlights traffic is grouped automatically in the Pixel dashboard.

Note: If you disconnect or update your API key, re-paste the new key in ShopMy settings to resume syncing for both feeds.

Verify your connection and understand the results

ShopMy Opportunities

Opportunities is ShopMy's performance-based offer product: a brand invites creators to earn a guaranteed payout for posting or linking, with no contracts or content review required. Creators drive sales through these paid partnerships by sharing tagged links or mentions with their audiences.

In Triple Whale, you'll see:

  • Each Opportunity as a Campaign under the ShopMy - Opportunities channel.

  • Individual creators as Ad Sets underneath their respective campaigns.

  • Spend reflecting the payout your brand made to each creator upon completion of their Opportunity.

ShopMy pushes this data into Triple Whale via API on a daily cadence, through the same connection used for Spotlights. Only completed deliverables are included — accepted-but-unpaid deals are excluded to keep spend accurate.

The Opportunities feed does not include:

  • Commission earned by creators outside of Opportunities.

  • Gifting costs, meaning the product cost of influencer gifting.

Known limitation: Spend and conversion data may currently appear on separate rows in your Attribution dashboard. Triple Whale is actively working to consolidate these into a single ShopMy channel view. Contact your Triple Whale rep for the latest status.

ShopMy Spotlights

Spotlights is ShopMy's paid media product. ShopMy takes creator content and runs it as real paid ads on Meta (Partnership Ads) or other ad platforms, managing campaign execution on your brand's behalf and reporting performance back to Triple Whale.

In Triple Whale, you'll see:

  • Each Spotlight as an ad set or ad under one campaign per brand, named Spotlights Meta - [Brand Name].

  • Meta ad-network metrics: spend, clicks, impressions, and conversions.

  • Pixel revenue joining separately through link UTMs — a distinct data source from the Meta metrics above, so nothing is double-counted.

  • Return on ad spend (ROAS) calculated using your preferred attribution model: first click, last click, linear, or Total Impact.

Spotlights spend lands in Triple Whale via API on a daily cadence, through the same connection used for Opportunities. New Spotlights are UTM-tagged automatically so pixel revenue joins correctly — no manual setup required.

Compare Opportunities and Spotlights

Spotlights is real paid media spend (Meta ad dollars). Opportunities is creator payout spend. They are intentionally separate channels so the two cost types don't get mixed together.
