Overview
Triple Whale matches each Shopify order’s shipping country to the country-based markets you’ve set up in Shopify. You can ask Moby about orders by market or query the data in Triple Whale’s SQL editor. A Shopify Market filter for the Summary page is planned, but it is not available yet.
If you sell across multiple countries, Shopify Markets lets you organize those countries into named groups, such as United States or International. Triple Whale uses those groups to help you examine order activity by the markets that matter to your business.
Key terms
Shopify Market: A named group of countries you define in Shopify.
Market region: The geographic region matched to an order’s shipping country. For example, an order shipping to Canada can have a market region of Canada.
How it works
Triple Whale looks at an order’s shipping country, then finds the Shopify Markets that include that country. It does not use the billing country or a market value saved on the order at checkout.
A country can belong to more than one market. If Canada is included in both CA and International, an order shipping to Canada has both market names, while remaining a single order in the Orders table. In a case like this, the order will be counted twice, once in each market.

This mapping covers country-based geographic Shopify Markets. If an order has no shipping country or its shipping country matches no market, shopify_markets is an empty list ([]). Amazon orders are not assigned Shopify Markets.

When to use it and what to keep in mind
Use Shopify Markets to compare order activity across the country groups you manage in Shopify. Because an order can belong to multiple markets, a market-by-market breakdown can count that order in more than one group. Do not add the market rows together to calculate a storewide total.
Market membership is calculated from shipping countries and Shopify Markets data rather than stored on each order. If you change which countries belong to a market, older orders can appear under a different market when you query them again.
What if my Shopify Markets data isn't showing in Triple Whale?
You made need to update the connection to grant Triple Whale access to the Shopify Markets data. It's really easy, you just go to your Shopify Admin > Apps > search for the Triple Whale app:

The data will start flowing in within one hour.
